3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – M’Hamid (Gateway to the Desert)

Departure at 8:00 AM from Marrakech heading towards the High Atlas Mountains. The journey crosses the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), offering breathtaking views of traditional Berber villages and mountain landscapes.

Stop to visit the famous ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch will be served in the village.

After lunch, continue toward the beautiful Draa Valley, known for its vast palm groves and historic kasbahs. Along the way, you may visit the village of Tamgroute, famous for its ancient Quranic library, underground kasbah, and traditional pottery workshops.

Arrival in the late afternoon at M'Hamid El Ghizlane, considered the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Dinner and overnight stay in a riad or guesthouse.

Day 2: M’Hamid – Sacred Oasis – Erg Chegaga Desert

After breakfast, you may enjoy a camel ride around the surroundings of M’Hamid.

Later, departure by 4x4 vehicle toward the dunes of Erg Chegaga. The off-road track covers about 51 km across spectacular desert landscapes, crossing the three types of Moroccan desert terrain: erg (sand dunes), reg (rocky desert), and hammada (stony plateau).

Stop at the Sacred Oasis, a peaceful place in the middle of the desert, perfect for a relaxing break and lunch.

In the afternoon, arrival at the impressive dunes of Erg Chegaga, the largest and most wild dunes in the Moroccan Sahara. Enjoy the unforgettable sunset over the dunes.

Traditional dinner and evening around the campfire.
Overnight in a desert camp under nomadic tents or under the stars.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Iriki Lake – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech

After breakfast at the desert camp, departure by 4x4 toward Marrakech.

The route crosses the spectacular Lac Iriki, a vast dry lakebed, then passes through the impressive landscapes of Lmadwar, often called the “Colorado of the Moroccan desert”.

Arrival in Foum Zguid for a coffee break, then continue to the Berber town of Taznakht, famous as the capital of Moroccan Berber carpets. You may visit a local workshop to see how traditional carpets are made.

Lunch in Taznakht before continuing the journey back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon.
